TOUCHWOOD Plant Support Trial for Aquilegias
Plant Heritage Magasine Spring 2012
Some of the photos are reproduced below as they are rather difficult to see above. Where possible the 'before' and 'after' are of the same plant/s. Hope you enjoy looking out for Sammy the Snail, who's good at giving a sense of scale! Spirals
Cradles, satisfying to use and very effective.
Rings, another all-round favourite. No after pics as they were usually well hidden!
Grids or Support Frames. Expensive, but did more than 1 plant, I'd buy smaller circumference next time. This is 4 pics all for 691 to start with, look at those ugly sticks I used to have. And they didn't work.
Now a support frame for both my red & yellow double 553 and black pompom:
In the Stile Garden
Grid and L-shaped links
Closer look at those same L-shaped links and grid separately:
Here's L-shaped links in a large formation, plus spiral and cradles.
With grateful thanks to Plant Heritage for the bursary via Brother, and additional supports donated from Suttons.
A further 'thank you' to Suttons for continued support the following year, with further plant supports to trial. Their seeds are pretty cool too!
